Introduction to The Urantia Book Course:  Class #1004

Overview of Part II of The Urantia Book

About the Class

"There is in the mind of God a plan which embraces every
creature of all his vast domains, and this plan is an eternal
purpose of boundless opportunity, unlimited progress, and endless life. And the infinite treasures of such a matchless
career are yours for the striving!"  32:5.7 (365.3)

Part II of The Urantia Book focuses on the local universe - the immense arena wherein our spiritual evolution occurs from the basic material level through the many morontia levels of existence.  In this class we will explore the origin and structure of our local universe of Nebadon and learn about the nature and functions of its magnificent divine creators and rulers - Michael, the Creator Son and the Mother Spirit, the Creative Daughter of the Infinite Spirit.

The Ministers, Teachers and Administration of the Local Universe

Over the course of billions of years, Michael and the Mother Spirit engage in creating countless celestial beings whose wide-ranging, special endowments allow them to administer the vast organization of their universe and to teach and minister to the ascending mortals of its millions of inhabited worlds. In this class we will learn more about the specific functions of many of these orders of beings.

We will discover that our local universe (and all the universes of space and time) is remarkably well-ordered, efficiently administered, and superbly coordinated in order to advance and support the Paradise ascension scheme of mortal spiritual progression.

The Destiny of Our Local Universe, Creators and Mortal Ascenders

Part II of the Urantia Book, The Local Universe, begins with Paper 32: The Evolution of Local Universes, and ends with Paper 56: Universal Unity. Part II helps us to understand the evolutionary scheme of spiritual progression for mortal beings like us, beginning with our human careers here on Urantia through our resurrection and transitional training on the mansion worlds and beyond. Our ascension journey will take us "upwards" and inwards through ascending levels of "morontia" existence all the way to Salvington, the capital of our local universe of Nebadon where we finally attain first-stage spirit status.

We will also examine the history of Nebadon from its origin and early stages of development to its present status and beyond to its glorious destiny in a far distant future when it achieves the highest stage of light and life.  Just as the physical universe and all its personal beings are evolving towards perfection, so too are our Creator Son and Mother Spirit as they guide their creation to the fullness and exhaustion of all its potentials.

Instructors for this Class:

Andre Radatus

Canadian born, André Radatus immigrated to the United States in 1980 to teach at the Denver Academy, a leader in educating learning-difference youngsters, founded and fostered by three students of The Urantia Book. He has been an independent tutor in math, science, and reading for over 25 years. He has served in the commercial finance sector for fifteen years. He now serves as an analyst in the organic dairy industry. He spent a year and a half immersed in the French language and Quebec culture studying Le Livre d'Urantia with francophone readers there.

André has three adult children, son Michael and daughters Vanessa and Yvana; the youngest and eldest in Colorado with the elder daughter in California.

His ever-close reference and companion, The Urantia Book’s truths have spoken compellingly to André since March of 1976, enriching the experience of living; making the Book “the ever-illuminating 'Handbook Earth'” for him. He has attended study groups regularly and continuously since 1978 and understands the essential benefits of learning the truths of the revelation in fellowship with others, some of the limitations inherent in study groups but more of their positives.

David Glass

David Glass found The Urantia Book in 1973 in San Francisco and began with a complete read-through which took 6 months. Over the years he has attended as many study groups as existed within driving distance of his locations in FL, TX, and OR.

David has been instrumental in planning and coordinating Urantia Book conferences at the local, state, regional, national and international levels for 40 years. He serves on the Fellowship Publications Committee and has been the delegate or alternate to the TDA for many years as well as serving in various official roles in the North Texas Society of Urantia Book Readers (USNT).

In addition to working with the UrantiaUniversity curriculum development team, David writes poetry and music and performs piano solos.

Elisabeth Callahan

Throughout her life Elisabeth has pursued a path of contemplative practice and studies in world religions and transpersonal psychology. She trained intensively for many years in both the Soto and Rinzai schools of Zen and was ordained a Zen Buddhist monk. Years later she returned to her Christian roots, seeking the expression of the original way that Jesus lived and taught, and was ordained a priest in the Independent Catholic Church. During these years she also pursued training in transpersonal psychology including graduate work at ITP (now Sofia University) in Menlo Park, CA.

Since discovering The Urantia Book in 1984 she has devoted herself to its in-depth study and sharing it with others. She and her husband, John have led a weekly Urantia Book study group in Southern California for many years and derive rich personal and spiritual growth through this fellowship and the process of group discovery and application of Urantia Book teachings. She has been a Trustee of UrantiaUniversity since its inception and currently serves as the voluntary Executive Director of Urantia University Institute.

Prior to her full-time service in developing Urantia University as a center of higher enlightened education, Elisabeth worked at Road Scholar (Elderhostel) for many years as a Program Coordinator. Before that she enjoyed a long corporate career as an administrative and technical manager at Transamerica Insurance Companies in Los Angeles.

About the Class

This class will focus primarily on the topic of our relationship with God. We will begin with a consideration of the nature of God and proceed to a discussion of how we may best relate to God.

Module 1:  Overview of Part 1

The first module begins with an orientation to the cosmology of the master universe, followed by a discussion of the three Deities of the Paradise Trinity.

We will survey the principal universe locations and subdivisions of Part I - Paradise, Havona, the seven superuniverses, and the major and minor sectors - along with some of the celestial personalities who inhabit and/or rule these domains.

Special attention will be given to the Seven Master Spirits, the Supreme Trinity Personalities, the Paradise Sons of God, some of the various types and ministries of the Personalities of the Infinite Spirit, and the Mortal Corps of Finality.

The module will close with a brief discussion of the nature of the “Ultimate Adventure” and the eternal - or final human - destiny.  You are welcome to make this great journey through time and space, in eternity and before the mysterious backdrop of infinity.

Module 2:  Topical Study on Our Relationship to the Universal Father

We will continue with a wide-ranging overview of how maintaining a relationship with God will effect lasting changes in our character, alter our essential nature, and transform our perspective on reality while, at the same time, ensure our success in fulfilling our ongoing destinies.
