Introduction to The Urantia Book Course:  Class #1020

The Celestial Artisans

About the Class

Students will engage in a focused study of the work of the Celestial Artisans, a brilliant group of master artisans and artists from Havona, who are principally engaged in the work of morontia embellishment and in spiritual beautification.

This class offers an exciting experiential dimension to students in the form of working on a creative art project of the student's choosing during the class. The ability to express Beauty in its countless forms lies within all of us. One does not have to be an artist to take this class! The instructors will offer ideas for art projects that anyone can do and guidance to those who request it.

The Celestial Artisans

In this class, we will explore Paper 44, The Celestial Artisans. This is a very rich paper, not only for what we learn about the fascinating work of the artisans themselves, but also for the wealth of material it offers about our future universe career and the inspiring perspective it gives us on our creative potential as ascending mortals.

To put all of this in perspective, we will keep this passage from Paper 56 in mind during our study:

  •  "Man finding God and God finding man—the creature becoming perfect as is the Creator—that is the supernal achievement of the supremely beautiful, the attainment of the apex of cosmic art." (56:10.3)

The class will be organized around three learning outcome tracks that will continue through all four sessions:

1) Discovering new understandings about our universe career.

2) Exploring the work of the celestial artisans in depth, including the nature and purpose of the various services they offer.

3) Applying new understandings of the celestial artisans and our ascending career to a personal creative project of your own choosing.

      Instructors

      Cristina Seaborn

Cristina Seaborn is a violinist, fiddler, and composer.  She has been playing the violin her whole life.  Most of all, she loves performing to spiritually uplift the audience with an improvisation concert.  As a composer and improviser, she strives to “get out of her own way.”  This means trusting the musical ideas that come into her head, and playing them on the violin.  She experiences both being in the audience and listening to her improvisation, as well as being the musician that creates the flow of notes, rhythms, and phrases.  In her collaboration with others, Cristina has played many styles of music, including classical, folk, jazz, and rock.

The Urantia Book has played an important part in her life, as the teachings encourage each one of us to be creative.  She believes that to express God through creativity is what makes us human.  Creating beautiful worship experiences for others is especially important to Cristina, in collaboration with other musicians and the spoken word.  She states, "There is so much more that we can achieve together, allowing God to lead the worship and creativity."

      Chuck Thurston

Chuck Thurston has been a visual artist and a student of The Urantia Book for most of his life. He also has many years of teaching experience. Chuck's interest in the visual arts has included painting, graphic design, photography, creation and editing of digital images, and digital fine art printing.

Chuck's creative endeavors are inspired by the expansive spiritual sensibility of the Urantia teachings. His overriding intention is to bring forms of expression into existence that will add positive meaning and value to the lives of those who enjoy his work. The global reach of social media has added an exciting new dimension to these possibilities. You can follow Chuck's latest work on Instagram (@thurston.chuck) or on Facebook.
