UUI Thought Leaders Forum

An online forum for exploring new directions and integrative
thinking in science, religion, philosophy and human systems

You are invited to join in the first UUI Thought Leaders  conversation - an exciting new project to help develop thought leaders inspired by The Urantia Book.

It is our desire to give inspiriting and transformative thinkers within our global Urantia community a platform for sharing meaningful ideas that can shape a better world.

The UUI online forums are free.

A video recording of this 2017 event is available for viewing.

We ask people to register for the online Forums (using a Zoom video conference room) simply to provide us with an approximation of the potential attendance. There is no obligation to attend.

February Forum Topic:

How do we do the will of God in this moment of our planet’s evolution?

Saturday, February 25, 2017

at 1:00-2:00 PM Eastern Time USA

Angie and Claire Thurston

Summary Statement by the Presenters:

We know from The Urantia Book that our ideals grow exponentially compared to our ability to live them.  How do we maximize our impact to help ourselves, our communities and our planet?

What are some practical ideas for enhancing our spiritual lives to leverage progress in these especially turbulent times?

About the Presenters:

Claire Thurston

Claire Thurston serves as a Trustee of Urantia University and chairs UUI's Strategic Planning group. She has been studying The Urantia Book since 1980 and

long been active in Urantia Book study groups and societies.

Claire's day job is doing strategic planning for the Federal government's Center for Leader-ship Development, which has included designing and managing the LEAD certificate program.

Combining the revelatory information about God  the Universal Father with the latest psychology research about a father's influence on a child's development, she is an author (The Dad Difference, 2014) and regular contributor to the online magazine, The Good Men Project.  She is most proud that her three children consider themselves Urantians and is very excited to see the fruits of the Youth and Young Adult movement in the Urantia community.

Angie Thurston

Angie is a Ministry Innovation Fellow at Harvard Divinity School, actively supporting leaders who are deepening

community amidst increasing religious disaffiliation. She is the co-author of How We Gather and  Something More, two reports profiling new forms of meaningful community in America.

She began chairing semiannual spiritual gatherings for young adults in 2010. Her faith is grounded in The Urantia Book, and she is an active leader in the international fellowship of Urantia Book readers. Angie currently serves as a General Councilor of the Urantia Book Fellowship and Associate Trustee of Urantia Foundation.  She received an MDiv from Harvard Divinity School in 2016. Angie previously studied playwriting at Brown University and put on arts events in New York City for six years.

Context and Format of the Online Forum:

The UUI Thought Leaders Forum is a series of online dialogues modeled in part on the Ted Talks concept. The primary distinction is that the UUI Thought Leaders Forum will be interactive and have a spiritual context for examining and presenting ideas of progressive, evolutionary value in science, philosophy, and religion that are inspired by The Urantia Book. It will also look at how these three domains of knowledge intersect with human systems and the development of civilization

The one-hour webinar will begin with a short video presentation (10-20 minutes) then open to a Q&A session with the presenter(s), audience, and a panel of longtime readers for the remainder of the hour. Participants should enter their questions on the Zoom chat board.

A video recording of the online Forum will be available for viewing on this website at a later date, for the benefit of those who missed it.

Education is the business of living; it must continue throughout a lifetime so that mankind may gradually experience the ascending levels of mortal wisdom, which are:

1.  The knowledge of things.
2.  The realization of meanings.
3.  The appreciation of values.
4.  The nobility of work – duty.
5.  The motivation of goals – morality.
6.  The love of service – character.
7.  Cosmic insight – spiritual discernment.

And then, by means of these achievements, many will ascend to the mortal ultimate of mind attainment, God-consciousness.
