UUI Thought Leaders Forum
An online forum for exploring new directions and integrative thinking in science, religion, philosophy and human systems
It is our desire to give inspiriting and transformative thinkers within our global Urantia community a platform for sharing meaningful ideas that can shape a better world.
March Forum Topic:
"... This Higher Symbolism of a Higher Civilization ..."
Saturday, March 24, 2018
12:00 noon-1:30 p.m. Mountain Time USA
Summary Statement by the Presenter:
The revelators tell us that we have just entered a 1000 year period of massive societal transition. It will carry us from the current materialistic, nationalist cultures that have developed over the past 500 years, over to the beginnings of a higher stage of civilization — with the end of war and the establishment of a global government, one language, and a unified culture that values spiritual goals as primary.
But they warn us that this next 1000 years will be a time of head-spinning, non-stop change and turbulence — both for societies and the individuals afloat within them — with great risk of confusion, dislocation and regression. Indeed, it is precisely in preparation for this stormy millennium of danger and opportunity, that they have fortified us with an emergency revelation.
And in section 87:7, The Nature of Cultism, they urge us to evolve a new spiritual culture from the up-stepped truths of this revelation — a compelling higher symbolism, an idealistic vision for self and society — that can provide guidance for humanity, as well as solace and stability, during this oncoming hurricane of transition.
Please register for our next Thought Leader Forum, where we will together explore the context of the title phrase above, and its implications for our collective efforts as religionists devoted to the unfolding mission of the fifth epochal revelation.

About the Presenter:
He has participated in and led study groups weekly for forty years, and served in numerous leadership roles with Urantia Book Fellowship and other service organizations. His dearest friends are fellow readers. He is the author of “Reaching High: The Psychology of Spiritual Living”, and has presented workshops at many movement conferences. He was especially fortunate to serve as Chair of the Fellowship’s Liaison Committee during efforts to restore cooperative relations with Urantia Foundation and UAI after the turbulence of the 1990’s. He is currently a member of the Standard Reference Text Committee, and of UUI’s Curriculum Committee.
Marvin is semi-retired after 30 years in practice as a Family Therapist, and currently works as the Executive Director of the Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada. He has, over the past thirty years, researched and offered workshops on the socialization of religion material in The Urantia Book, and in 1988 completed a two year Certificate of Theological Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in the history and sociology of religion.
He is President of the Family of God Fellowship (familyofgodfellowship.org ), which is dedicated to helping people live their lives more fully in spiritual family relationship, and to spreading Jesus’ gospel as expressed in The Urantia Book — a thrilling and dynamic Way of Life in the Family of God.
Most importantly, Marvin and his lovely and wise wife, Francyl, continue to enjoy the remarkable experience of serving as parents to two amazing young women, their husbands, and a ceaselessly inquisitive four-year old granddaughter! “Such a life on such a planet!” 111:7.5
Context and Format of the Online Forum:
The UUI Thought Leaders Forum is a series of online dialogues modeled in part on the Ted Talks concept. The primary distinction is that the UUI Thought Leaders Forum will be interactive and have a spiritual context for examining and presenting ideas of progressive, evolutionary value in science, philosophy, and religion that are inspired by The Urantia Book. It will also look at how these three domains of knowledge intersect with human systems and the development of civilization.
The 90-minute webinar will begin with a short video presentation (10-20 minutes) then open to a Q&A session with the presenter(s), audience, and a panel of longtime readers for the remainder of the event. Participants should enter their questions on the Zoom chat board.
A video recording of the online Forum will be available for viewing on this website at a later date, for the benefit of those who missed it.
